The blast over, the tryst with terror over and all the noises are settling down…
Thanks to media, right now our emotions are expressed with two or three curt phrases. NDTV says “enough is enough”… CNN-IBN asks, “How much is too much?”
Yes, questions are all what remains. I can ask you, and you can ask me. But who will give the answers? I think that was the root cause of all the frustrations. We lacked someone. Someone who could come up and say, “Don’t worry, Mein Hoon Na?” Someone from the authority, who could say, “Yes, I know we could have done better. Still, let me correct the situation first and then let us talk”
What really mattered in the first few hours , we lacked a few A’s…
Accountability.
This was the first lesson I learned in management, even before learning what is management. You are responsible for your deeds and your subordinates. There is no second option there. Your subordinates will respect you, if you stand up to them. Your superiors will value you, if you take responsibility. But, in Mumbai, we saw a lot of people, but we didn’t know who was accountable or answerable – Chief Minister? Police IG? Or, towards top, PM? Home minister? Defense Minister? Or even, Opposition? Or us? We don’t still know..
Everyone is accountable to their realm. Let us leave out the ruling party, beaurocrats, media and the like.. What about the opposition party? Are they not responsible for all the mess they create and for not allowing a Govt to really concentrate on big issues like this? Almost 33.3% of us voted for them also right? They also draw a salary paid from our taxes. So, aren’t they accountable for what happened?
And, what about us, the common people? Are we not included in the list of accountable people?
Action
Corrective and preventive actions. Corrective actions delayed, preventions not yet fully in place.
Alert
I am not talking about Intelligence failures. If the enemy is too strong, it can happen. But what seemed to be small helps from locals and minor corruptions, aided the enemies in a big way – college ID cards, sim cards , fishermen ID cards and what not…
Its easy to sit in my home and blame others. Easier would be to start a blog and vent out my frustration. But someone inside me saying continuously, “No, Nasra, this time the anger and frustration are genuine. It IS going to be converted to actions. This time, country will face a change and a clean-up”.
Like you, I am also hoping for it and waiting for it to happen.
How? We don’t normally have a choice while we elect MP’s and MLA’s. Neither do we have a “none of the above” option in the ballot, other than may be an invalid entry. “Invalid” doesn’t convey anything, but “none of the above” speaks volumes. Do we get to see such a change after all this mass protests and movements? let us wait and see.
