Prevention of Sexual Harassment
Colloquially people use “POSH” to mean both the idea of preventing sexual harassment and the statutory framework in India that deals with it.
In workplace practice, “POSH” refers to policies, complaint mechanisms and training that aim to prevent, prohibit and redress sexual harassment at work.
Key statutory features most employers and HR teams use every day:
- Employers with 10 or more employees must constitute an Internal
Complaints Committee (ICC)
- A Local Complaints Committee (LCC) is to be established at district level for workplaces without ICC or where the complaint is against the employer

For FY 2024-25, total POSH complaints reached 2,583 among NSE 500 companies, a sharp 45% increase from two years prior (where it stood at 1,779 in FY 2022-23.
Despite the rise in filings, case resolution has lagged, with pendency rates stubbornly staying above 30% over the last three years (meaning roughly 1 in 3 corporate cases remained unresolved at the close of the fiscal year).
